About Me

César Alves was born in Caxias do Sul, a large city in the southernmost state of Brazil. His studies in music began at the age of 9 with a private piano instructor. Due to the influence of his older brother (playing loud LP’s of Pearl Jam and Metallica) he started studying guitar at the age of 14, and has been studying the instrument ever since.

He enrolled in a music education major at Santa Catarina State University when he was 19, but transferred out of the course 2 years later after a masterclass with the guitar player Lupa Santiago ’98, who advised him to enroll at Souza Lima BIN school in São Paulo, where he attended as a scholar for another 2 years.

Currently a dean-listed scholar at Berklee College of Music as a Contemporary Writing & Production major, the 25 year-old guitarist pursues a career as a writer/producer to later on get a master’s degree in composition and expand his creative abilities to other niches within the music industry.

Experience & Education

  • Teacher for "Arte Musical" Music School
    February 2009 to August 2009 (6 months)

I was responsible for 43 students teaching private instructions for acoustic guitar, harmony classes, ear training and created a Brazilian Music ensemble never offered by the school before.

  • Session Musician for Self-Employed
    January 2009 to August 2009 (7 months)

I worked for several local composers recording their work, mostly jingles. Many times I was asked to record other instruments, such as bass, drum set and piano, and help sequence the remaining tracks for a hybrid recording. After two months I started to write, sell and record my own jingles.

  • Lead Guitar for "Sigilo Absoluto" Pop-rock Band
March 2004 to December 2006 (over 2 years)

This tribute band formed during my first college and we stayed together for 2 years. During this time we traveled frequently to play and several times we were highlighted at local magazines for our sound quality and professionalism.
