Ssu-yun Wang
Steel pan / Vibraphone / Marimba / Piano / Band leader/ Composition /Arranger

Born in Changhua, Taiwan, Ssu-Yun started to play the piano when she was 6; in elementary school, she attended a band, played melodica and accordion. In Junior High School, she was the piano accompanist for the men choir; then at National Changhua Senior High School, she studied music major class, major in voice and minor instrument in piano. At National Sun Yat-Sen University, she graduated with a major in music. Ssu-Yun, hence, developed a strong classical music background and multiplied performances. Influenced by jazz vibraphone master Gary Burton, she decided to play jazz vibraphone. In 2010, she earned a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she chose jazz performance as majors, and studies vibraphone with Victor Mendoza, Ed Saindon, and Dave Samuels; studies marimba with Nancy Zeltsman. In Sep. 2010, she got the 2nd prize for vibraphone in Italy Percussion Competition at Fermo. Now she is developing her skills in percussion, also compose. In 2012 Spring, she applied Steel pan as her secondary instrument, and studied with Ron Reid. She starts the Caribbean project. Her first Caribbean project ’’Let’s go to the Caribbean!’’ was in June 21st in Berklee College of music, got good evaluation. The next Caribbean recital will in October 18th 4pm in 1A recital hall in Berklee college of music.
