About Me

Sharon Raizer hails from the small town of Rehovot Israel. At the tender age of five, her family uprooted and moved to Nigeria, Africa. In Nigeria, Sharon Raizer was heavily influenced by the melting pot of cultures and music. She began to study drum set and percussion with a local percussionist, in the footsteps of her father. Raizer and her family lived in this culture infused country for roughly eight years before moving to the United States for better opportunities. Still, it wasn’t until Sharon began school in Florida that she truly began to take music on a serious level. She joined Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band and the Percussion Ensemble at school and began honing in on her craft. Slowly, her musical tastes began to lean towards orchestral percussion and particularly the marimba. After graduating High School, Raizer returned to Isreal to feel closer to home. In 2006, Sharon Raizer enrolled in the Berklee College of Music International Network School Rimon School of Music located in Ramat Hasharon, Israel. There she studied with Berklee greats such as Ofer Portugali and Gil Ladin as well as the musical talents of the great Karen Pampimon-Zehavi and Rony Holan. Still, studying primarily jazz drum set, Raizer longed to learn more classical percussion and marimba. After one semester at Rimon, Raizer decided to make the life changing decision of applying to Berklee College of Music in Boston. Currently, in her eighth semester at Berklee , Sharon Raizer studies with virtuoso marimba soloist Nancy Zeltsman among other amazing and talented Berklee Faculty. She is dual majoring in Contemporary Writing and Production and Performance on marimba. Although Raizer’s primary instrument is marimba, she also dabbles in a variety of instruments including but not limited to ukuklele, cajon and congas. Presently, she is involved with several activities inside and outside of Berklee including a wedding trio and Berklee’s Women’s Musician’s Network. After school Raizer plans on continuing her musical journey through jingle writing. She happily resides in Boston, Massachusetts.
