About Me

Greg Silva is a writer, composer, performer, director, producer and teacher. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition from Oral Roberts University and has studied composition and recording arts on the graduate level at Peabody Conservatory. He studied directing with Christopher Hanna, of Julliard, and theatre arts on the graduate level at Old Dominion University.

Mr. Silva studied filmmaking on the graduate level at Regent University in Virginia, where he scored and/or orchestrated award-winning movies. In 1987, “Bird In a Cage”, which he orchestrated, won the National Student Academy Award.

In 1991, Mr. Silva founded the Actors’ Theatre of Virginia Beach, producing many plays for the stage, as well as working within the company as a music director, sound designer, and actor.

In 1999, he moved to Chicago, where he founded Scratch Media, a performing arts production company that specializes in original works for both stage and screen. He has produced many promotional videos for performing arts groups, including Latin Street Dance Co. and SoleStance.

His plays have been produced in New Play festivals in Virginia and Chicago. “Clown Head”, a musical circus fantasy for the stage, which he wrote, produced, and directed, had its premiere in Chicago in the summer of 2004. He also produced a soundtrack album from that production, which is currently available on CD.

Mr. Silva has written songs, performed piano accompaniment, and/or taught song-writing at the Second City Training Center and ImprovOlympic. As a sound designer, he has worked for many theatre companies, including Steppenwolf and Live Bait.

His most recent theatre production, “The Great American Nudie Spectacular!”, a sketch-comedy review, for which he wrote the book, music and lyrics, had its premiere in the summer of 2009 at the National Pastime Theatre and Theatre Building Chicago.

He’s currently arranging and producing a CD for acoustic rock singer/songwriter Annah London, with whom he also performs.
