About Me

My name is Santiago Herrera. I was born in 1986 in Ecuador and lived there 24 years before I moved to Boston in August 2010 to continue with my education in Music at the Berklee College of Music, the best place in the world to do it.

I am a Performance Major and I play Electric Bass.

I started to play piano at age of 8. At age of 12 I learned to play guitar and drums, all this by ear. At age of 16 I started playing electric bass and never stopped since then. I started to take formal instruction in music at age of 21 with world class instructors, such as Jeffry Eckels, Steve Whipple, Katie Thiroux and Edwin ProaƱo.

Back in Ecuador I attended the “Instituto de Musica Contemporanea (IMC)” at “Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ)”, one of the most prestigious Music Schools in Latin America and part of the Berklee International Network (BIN). While I was there I played with many different and diverse ensembles including the Salsa Ensemble, the Jazz-Fusion Ensemble, the BeBop Ensemble and the IMC Big Band. Being in this school gave me the chance to get involved in the music scene in Ecuador. I’ve performed with Jazz, Salsa, Merengue, Latin Jazz, Folk, Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop and Funk Bands. After 3 years of attendance in IMC, I finally earned a significant scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music.

Here in Berklee I have performed with different ensambles and projects in all the venues in the school. The most important gig I had was in October 2010 with Jazz-Legend Arturo Sandoval at the Berklee Performance Center. Also, I was chosen to represent the school in the “Carnaval de Barranquilla en Miami” Fest that took place in Miami in March 2011.

I’m trying to get the best out of Berklee. The cultural diversity in the school is huge and I would love to keep enriching my knowledge about Music of the World, as well as collaborating and giving the best out of my culture.

If you need a bass player you know who to call. Hit me up!
