About Me
I am a Maryland-based composer. My music covers a lot of ground: contemporary jazz, exploring new music directions, tango, samba, funk, blues…back to early jazz influences and old fiddle styles (roots music).
My work is often descirbed as “serious music that is fun” (I get that a lot!) and “a unique voice”.
Jazz Composition, Berklee College of Music 1968.
BA Composition, McKendree University 1973.
MA Composition, New Mexico Highlands University 1974.
Jazz and classical composition teachers include Herb Pomeroy, William Maloof, John Bavicchi, Robert Wykes, Stephanie Owen, and Champ Tyrone.
Listed in International Who’s Who in Music.
A larger selection of my work is available on my composer’s page at the American Music Center (MY LINKS). My AMC page has a short music bio; click on the Compositions tab to see a list of original tunes, extended pieces, and ensemble scores. Many of them have a demo MP3.
All of my music at the American Music Center is intended to be USED. If you find something that you like, please work with it and perform it. Of course, give credit to the composer….and tell others about it. Hearing from musicians who are performing my music is appreciated.
A selection of my music is licensed through PARMA Recordings. PARMA is a New England-based audio production house with active recording, release, marketing, and licensing programs, and their Navona, Ravello, and Big Round label imprints are distributed internationally by Naxos.
The following musicians are on my recordings:
Amy Leonard, violin
Jason Shapiro, saxophones
Jeff Knoettner, keyboards
E. Shawn Qaissaunee, guitar
Peter McCarthy or Brian Howell, bass
Skip Rohrich, drums
BUZZARDS IN LOVE (for wind ensemble)
The MP3 file was generated by Silibelius software and is a rough approximation of how the piece sounds with a real band.
