I am a Yamaha (Singapore) bass and KLOTZ Audio Interface Systems endorsee, and I have been playing electric bass for the past 16 years, as well as the double bass which I picked up a year back.

My earliest experience in music was taking classical piano lessons as a child. Inspired by the music of Victor Wooten, Michael Manring and Marcus Miller, I taught myself to play the bass and began exploring funk, acid jazz and progressive rock. Soon, I was performing a lot with various bands in Singapore and began to include two-handed finger-tapping (inspired by Michael Manring) and live-looping with the Boss RC-50 in my performances. I also experimented multi-tracking and live-looping with iPhone apps during solo performances.

Some shows I have played at include the MTV Asia Awards, Mosaic Music Festival, Singapore Wine and Jazz Festival, ESPNStar Sports X-Games Asia and Baybeats Music Festival. I have also been fortunate enough to have sessioned for artists like James LoMenzo (Megadeth), Mel Gayner (Simple Minds), Shaggy, Emma Shapplin and Riki Hendrix.

In 2008 I released a solo EP “Between Here And Then” which received favorable reviews including an article by Brent-Anthony Johnson at Bass Frontiers Magazine. The songs can be heard here www.wendyphua.com/category/music

Aside from performing, I am also a bass instructor and hold bass clinics for Yamaha. On the side, I produce inflight radio shows for carriers like Singapore Airlines, American Airlines and Air China, and have worked with award-winning presenters from BBC, in addition to liaising with major record labels worldwide.

I am currently active in 2 bands – Tessera, an all-female jazz band and Ootini!, a world/soul group.
