Jordan Holly, a twenty-one year old R&B/Soul singer from Oakland California, began her musical journey at the age of five taking piano lessons at Deborah’s Pianoforte. Here she learned the basics on the piano as well as in her theory. At the age of six, Jordan was introduced to singing at her church home, Foothill Missionary Baptist Church where she joined in the Children’s and Youth Choir. Once she became involved, she worked on her performance skills and stage presence.
During the spring of her last year of elementary school, Holly auditioned and was accepted to Oakland School for the Arts under the Instrumental Music Department where she continued to work on her skills in piano and theory. Holly then began to feel that the art of Vocal Music was a better fit for her and after being featured in an alumni cabaret, she was discovered by Vocal Music chair Cava Menzies, who felt that she would be a great addition into the School of Vocal Music. As Holly transitioned from instrumental to vocal, she strengthened her stage presence, theory, performance, arranging skills, etc.
Through the School of Vocal Music, Holly was given many opportunities such as performing in the Fox Theater for the School of Vocal Music’s annual spring show and the Oracle Arena for an Oakland Raider’s football game, going on a concert tour in New Orleans, Louisiana, working as a background singer with the up and coming group Cavalisa, and working with the amazing number one high school A Cappella group in the nation, Vocal Rush. Because of these opportunities and all of the teachings through the School of Vocal Music, Holly has won the Most Outstanding Soloist Award in the Semi-Finals and Finals of the 2013 ICHSA competition (International Championship of High School A Cappella). Her final achievement in her high school career took place in the summer of 2013, where Holly and Vocal Rush participated and placed 3rd on the National NBC television show, The Sing-Off.
Now, Holly is attending Berklee College of Music where she is studying Music Business with a focus in Management. She has joined Berklee’s premiere a cappella group, Pitch Slapped, and is now the group’s Album Advisor for their upcoming full length album release in April of 2017. Along with this accomplishment, Holly and has been given great opportunities such as traveling around the United States and internationally, giving back to the community through high school workshops, and performing for different shows at Berklee College of Music such as Perfect Pitch, Chinese New Year, and Singer’s Showcase. Holly hopes to continue participating in all that Berklee has to offer before she graduates in 2017. She is excited to be finishing up her last courses and for upcoming shows that she will be participating in such as Great American Songbook and Singer’s Showcase. She is currently working on her own show that she will be putting on before she walks the stage and she is working on music that will be released sometime this year.
