About Me

“Personality has the power to open many doors, but character must keep them open.”

This simple quote defines an extraordinary young lady by the name of Sadayah Galloway. Sadayah Galloway was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey on October 9, 1989 with a character of her own. Her name of African decent, Sadayah, which means “fortunate”, alone defines the many fortunes in her life. She was raised by a loving mother, outstanding grandparents and other supportive family members. Despite the negative stigma of her community, Sadayah was raised with great morals and values; her home was filled with love but, most importantly, it was based on a strong Christian foundation. At the church is where Sadayah found the love of music. Playing gospel just wasn’t enough for Sadayah. She became more interested in music in the art itself and decided she was going to go to Creative Arts High School in Camden, NJ.

In 2004, Sadayah went on to attend Creative and Performing Arts High School in Camden, New Jersey, where she majored four full years as an Instrumental major under the instruction and her later mentor, Mr. Jamal Dickerson. Sadayah also took lessons with Craig McIver and that is when Sadayah developed and became more versatile with her music. She became a member of the U.C.C. Royal Band and also participated in Marching Band, and the Jazz Band Combo in high school. She, along with other band members, also helped put on some of the school spring musicals such as Fame, Grease, and Sophisticated Ladies. Sadayah’s high school performances lead to many awards, such as NJIAJE State Championship Finals, Best Rhythm Section Awards and Outstanding Soloist Awards. She also participated in the Berklee High School Jazz Festival where she took home the outstanding soloist award during her senior year in high school as well as the 1st place trophy for big band in their class. These are just a few of her many awards. It was then when Sadayah decided that she wanted to pursue a career in Music Education. She graduated from Creative and Performing Arts High School in 2008 and then went to pursue higher education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

Currently, Sadayah is a full time sixth semester student at Berklee with a CGPA of 3.1 and ratings of fives across the board. Her past third semester, Sadayah studied abroad in Athens, Greece and she worked just as hard and returned with a 3.5 GPA. While at Berklee, Sadayah has done master classes at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA and has played with Jazz Legends such as bassist, Jimmy Merritt also known as “Mr. Mysterioso” who has played with trumpeter Lee Morgan, pianist Sam Dockery who played with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Philadelphia Jazz Legends such as Don Wilson,Mike Boone, Nina Bundy, Ella Gahnt, saxophonist Tony Williams, Rebirth Brass Band and Bootsie Barnes all prior to and present at Berklee. Furthermore, Sadayah also plays with a group Cara Liom (Friends of Mine) in the Mummer’s Parade every year. February of 2009, Sadayah played with Alo Brasil and was also given the opportunity to play with New Orleans native Trombone Shorty at World Cafe in Philadelphia, PA. November 2010, Sadayah was recognized as a community leader and scholar the annual Unity Community Center Banquet

Still to this day, Sadayah takes private instruction when she travels home with Craig McIver. Sadayah’s plans are to go back to the community in which she came and teach to the inner city youth that they too can make something of themselves no despite their circumstance.

Although music is Sadayah’s passion and help shape the amazing you lady she is today, there are other aspects of her life that contributed to her growth into a productive, humble, caring young lady. She enjoys spending time with family and friends as much as practicing or just jamming with her peers. She is a normal teenager with a personality that brightens up anyone’s day and open doors for her and her character is what keeps her stable and humble when God pours his blessings.
