Hello, and thanks for stopping in.
Berklee’s the place to be, eh? I’ve been doing electric guitar for a few decades, and in that time I noticed: It seems like the best things originate at Berklee.
I am a DIY player, by ear and occasional book. Cut my teeth on Clapton/Hendrix recordings, etc, and by late 1974 was learning Holdsworth off the vinyl at 16 rpm. Later, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever. I studied a little jazz theory privately from Berklee alumni and others.
Managing to ‘make a living’ in music in the 1970’s and early 1980’s, I did some light recording, funk/soul bands in Chicago, occasional blues gigs down south on the ‘chitlun circuit’, and Fusion bands. Following a 10-year hiatus (earned a B.S. in Computer Science from DePaul University in 1986), I performed regularly a couple times a week from 1995 to 2005, mid-size venues. Half dozen recordings.
That’s all history. I’m currently in love with, and working exclusively with, fifths-tuned instruments: NST guitar, FFT (full-fifths tuning) guitar (CGDAEB), long-scale cittern, bouzouki, mandolin, etc., applying a Jazz focus. I’ve nearly forgotten how to play in Standard Tuning!
This is clearly the right time to be here: There are so many talents right here on this network, and great instructors. I’m eager to learn from you all.
Here’s to being in the right place, at the right time, folks -
