About Me
As a composer, orchestrator, arranger, educator and bassist I’ve been a music industry professional for over thirty years (ouch!). At the rank of Professor at Berklee College of Music, located in Boston Massachusetts, I teach in the Contemporary Writing and Production department, and have authored and taught Arranging II, Arranging III and Writing For Woodwinds and Strings via their online school, Berkleemusic.com. Additionally, I teach composing, arranging and orchestration techniques privately through my website, www.jerrygatesmusic.com.
A few of my television and radio credits include Bank of America, Log Cabin maple syrup, Scope mouthwash, Marlboro cigarettes, and music preparation for “The Dennis Miller Show,” jazz great Bill Holman, and film composers Jack Smalley and Richard Band. At Berklee College of Music, I teach Contemporary Arranging techniques, Directed Studies in Arranging, Contemporary Twelve-Tone Composition, Orchestration, Big Band, Writing and Production in the Studio and Music Preparation courses.
Some of my most recently completed projects include composing and producing music for Nestle’s “Wonk Your Room” promotion for their www.wonka.com website, producing and orchestrating various projects for global songwriters and authoring a composition book entitled “All Twelve – Dodecaphonic Sources For Contemporary Composition.”
